Fewer, But Truer: How to Focus Your Goals This New Year
Fewer, but truer. I came up with that myself! đ¤Ł
Anywho, with all of the chaos of the holidays and the kids being out of school, I approached the new year slowly and cautiously. The first thing I needed to do was decompress (and do a little personal and professional admin). It wasnât until yesterday that I was able to sit down and define my 2026 goals. Here they are:

Thatâs all she wrote(with a little bit of kiddo scribble)! You wanna know why? Because after years of chasing more, Iâm choosing to chase less. Clarity doesnât come from adding more. It comes from choosing what truly matters.
The pre-2026 me would have told myself to chase the corporate job, excel in it, and then climb itâŚall in 2026. It would have told me that at the same time my coaching business should be yielding six figures and same goes for my retreat planning business. Oh, and I should be a full-time working mom who has successfully navigated my kidsâ new education, extracurriculars and healthcare systems, be on top of all of my relationships, and be ripped because Iâve successfully managed a robust, daily cardio and weightlifting program.
Iâm laughing (with compassionđ) at the pre-2026 me because if 2025 taught me anything it was that focusing on what matters pays off.
If this resonates with any of you, here are a few gentle ways to narrow your focus and move into the year with intention:
1. Start with how you want to feel
Before naming goals, ask yourself: How do I want to feel by the end of this year? Calm? Confident? Spacious? Energized? Let that feeling guide your choices. Goals that donât support that feeling may not belong right now. Remember, you can always revise. Life is iterative.
2. Choose one primary focus
Instead of spreading your energy thin, select one core area of focus â your health, your career, your relationships, your creativity. Progress compounds when your attention isnât divided.
This is a big one for me. I am the queen of multi-tasking/overachieving within my personal life and business because it makes me feel accomplished, but overloading doesnât necessarily mean success. Itâs not a numbers game. Take Marie Kondo, who helps people tidy through emotional connection, as an example. She has one idea and she does it exceptionally well!
3. Break it down to the next small step
Big visions are inspiring, but clarity lives in the next doable action. Ask yourself: What is one small step I can take this month? Focus creates momentum.
4. Let go of âshouldâ goals
Notice which goals come from expectation rather than desire. If itâs rooted in comparison, pressure, or guilt, it may be worth releasing. Your goals should feel alive, not heavy.
5. Build in space to reassess
You donât need to get it all right in January. Allow yourself the room to pause, reflect, and recalibrate as the year unfolds. Focus is a practice, not a one-time decision.
This year doesnât need to be louder, faster, or fuller. It can be simpler. More aligned. More yours.
If youâre ready to clarify what matters most and create goals that actually support the life you want to live, Iâd be honored to walk alongside you.
P.S. Book a complimentary call to see how I can help you clarify your goals.
With intention,
Heather
